New to the area, moved up from California a few months ago and I’m trying to build a list of trades I can call. Heating especially, since I’ve never really had to think about it before. What I want is a company that isn’t going to upsell me a full replacement the first time something goes wrong. Recommendations for the Seattle side of things? Also curious how far out these companies typically serve, we’re a bit north of the city. Also interested in whether the companies up here handle electrical work as well, since our panel looks original to the house and I suspect that’s a conversation I’ll be having eventually.

Welcome up. The upsell concern is fair, and the tell is whether they present repair and replacement side by side with real numbers or just steer you to the expensive one. We’ve used productairheating.com/ for a few years, family owned, and they cover a wide area from Mt Vernon down through Seattle, so being north of the city won’t be a problem. They do heating, cooling and electrical, which cut down on the number of people I have to keep track of. Not perfect, scheduling in peak season can slip a day. One thing you’ll learn fast here: humidity and mild damp cold matter more than raw temperature for comfort. Ask about their service area before you book, some outfits quote you and then discover you’re outside their range.
