My husband’s finally finished the barbecue area next to the house, proper spot for grilling and then sitting straight down to eat under the shelter without dragging everything back inside. Only thing left really is sorting out some practical outdoor furniture for the space. Where’s decent to look in the UK for something that’ll actually hold up out there?

Bet the barbecue’s getting a proper workout already with the weather like this. Rattan and aluminium hold up a lot better than wood once it’s living outside year round, worth bearing that in mind before falling for a nice looking wooden set in the shop window. Prices tend to be decent for garden dining sets at Dunelm, worth a look if you’re after something practical without spending a fortune. And the range is usually a bit wider over at Wayfair if Dunelm doesn’t have quite the right size for the space.

Bet the space gets used way more than planned once it’s actually finished, even just popping out there with a brew on a quiet morning. Comfort ends up mattering just as much as how weatherproof it all is, and getting something that looks decent while it’s out there matters too, not just something that survives the rain. You can look at stylish garden furniture here https://rengard.co.uk . The sets lean toward that dining and lounging combo you’re after, so matching pieces to how the barbecue area actually gets used is straightforward. Sizing runs a bit wider as well, handy if the shelter’s not a perfectly standard shape.
