How do you evaluate a fabricator when every one of them shows you the same glossy photos? I’ve had three come out and they all seem competent in conversation, but I have no way to judge who actually delivers. Reviews are all five stars everywhere, which tells me nothing. What questions have actually revealed something useful for you, or what warning signs have you learned to watch for? I’d rather ask the uncomfortable questions before signing than discover a problem when the slab is already cut and there’s no going back on the material.

The useful questions are process ones. Ask who does the fabrication, because plenty of shops broker it out and lose control of quality. Ask to see a completed install in person rather than photos, and ask how they handle a slab that cracks during fabrication, since the answer reveals whether they eat that cost or you do. Vague answers on timeline are also a signal. We went with ps-countertops.com/ partly because they had actual local projects we could look at across the Charleston area. Get everything in writing, especially the seam plan and the sink model they’re cutting for. Ask about the warranty on workmanship separately from the material warranty, they’re different things and both should be written down.
