I have been going back and forth on this for three days now and my head hurts, so maybe you guys can help me decide. My Infiniti QX70 is a 2013 model with about 130,000 km, and the front right side has started making a grinding sound when I turn the wheel and drive slowly. It is not very loud, but my wife noticed it first and said it sounds like something dry rubbing inside. I checked under the car and the rubber cover near the wheel looks a bit cracked. There is some oily grease around it too. One small garage near my place told me they can change the whole part for a low price and finish the same day. It sounded good, but the owner could not tell me where the part comes from, and he said “original or copy, your choice” like it was nothing. That made me nervous. A friend then told me to go to a proper Infiniti centre, even if it costs more, because they use the right parts and give a warranty. I read a bit on to understand what really gets checked on a driveshaft, and honestly it made me feel better about asking questions. Now I am looking at Certified Infiniti driveshaft repair in Khalifa City as one option, mainly because it is close to my house and I can ask them to show me the old part after. My worry is the price difference. If the small garage is half the cost, is it really worth paying double for the same job? But if the cheap part fails after six months, then I pay twice, and that would be the worst result. Has anyone here tried both ways with the same car? Did the cheaper repair last, or did the noise come back? Also, does a warranty on the repair really matter, or is it just something nice to hear at the counter? I would also like to know if fixing only the cracked cover early could have saved me from this, because if yes, I want to tell my brother to check his car too. Any simple advice is welcome, I just want to make the right choice without feeling stupid later.
