Some Tips for painless testosterone IM injections are preferable to others, depending on the patient’s age, the type of medication being used, the dose, the size of the intramuscular needle, and whether the injection is being self-administered or given to another person. Choosing the right injection site is important because it reduces the risk of injury and ensures proper absorption of the medication.

The deltoid muscle is the large muscle in the upper arm, located just below the shoulder. To find the injection site, feel for the arm bone where the arm and shoulder meet. The injection site is about a few centimeters below this point (or about two to three finger widths). Make sure to inject into the center of the muscle, where it is thickest.

Your first instinct may be to massage the intramuscular injection site to relieve pain or facilitate the medication’s absorption, but this is not recommended. Massaging the injection site can force the medication from the muscle into the skin layers, reducing its absorption. It can also cause bruising.
